Just days after the Amber Guyer trial, Texas has yet another shooting of a minority in their own house. A Fort Worth police officer who is an unidentified white male went to the home of Atatiana Koquice Jefferson, 28, Saturday morning after being dispatched for a call about an "open door."

James Smith, 62-yrs old and Jefferson's neighbor, called the non-emergency police after he saw that her door was open and lights were on at the time of 2:25 am on Saturday, 10/12. Jefferson was supposed to be home with her 8-yr old nephew, Smith stated.

Police bodycam footage, which was released, shows the officer walking around the home and looking through windows to see inside the residence. A flashlight is pulled out by the officer during dark areas around the perimeter of Jefferson's home. A few seconds later, he looks inside the window of her house, draws his gun, and yells, "Put your hands up! Show me your hands". Just seconds later, he shoots her, almost immediately. The officer perceived a threat, according to authorities. Once he fired the gun, the unidentified white male police officer went into the home and provided emergency care. The statement received says that the officer found a gun, but he was not anywhere near the weapon at the time of the shooting.

28-yr old Jefferson received medical care on-site but succumbed to her injuries and died.

The unidentified officer has been with the Fort Worth Police Department since 2018 and has been placed on administrative leave following the incident. The Ft. Worth Police Major Crime Unit, Internal Affairs, and the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney's Law Enforcement Incident Team are investigating the shooting. The department ended its statement by expressing their sadness over the recent tragic incident.
