Mysterious car accident leaves one woman dead and friends unharmed- Zkira Kemp: What really happened?

Zkira Kemp was a 20-year-old who had her life ahead of her. She was a student at Prairie View A&M University and a management major. She graduated high school in 2020 and helped students with special needs. Her life was taken away on one summer morning July 8, 2022 from a car accident.

The tragic accident happened on July 8, 2022 at 2:18 am. The car struck a mailbox, then a tree, and burned up with Zkira inside. Her friends escaped the car and we're slightly harmed.

Here is the story before the accident happened that leaves her family wanting answers and justice.

Her family has gone to social media to seeks answers for Zikra's death. Her mother- Jalanda Kemp, states that Zikra left Texas going to Maryland in July with 2 friends- a female and a male. Her friends were 20-years-old and they decided to travel to celebrate the female friend's 21st birthday on July 8th. The male on the trip was her friend’s boyfriend from Hyattsville.

According to baynet.com, The crash was reported as a single car crash and officers responded to the 1130 block of Maryland Point Road in Nanjemoy at 2:18am. The preliminary investigation revealed a driver of the vehicle was traveling on Maryland Point Road when the car left the roadway, struck a mailbox, then a tree, and caught on fire some time after.

The 20-year-old friend- from Texas-and male boyfriend were able to escape the car but Zkira- the 3rd occupant- was pronounced dead at the scene. Family was notified later, as she was unrecognizable due to the car being on fire. The two survivors were transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

At the time, the friends stated they could not remember who was driving. The male states that he was able to escape and help his girlfriend escape the crash before the car caught on fire. He also said he was going in and out of consciousness and there was no one around to help. The male also stated that he did not regain consciousness until he saw the car engulfed in flames. The family also notes that the accident happened in someone's front yard.

After the accident, the friends did not speak with the police according to Zkira's family. The mother of the male friend said he was unable to speak with the police due to ongoing injuries despite being seen having fun with other friends.

Later the friends stated they could remember and that Zkira was intoxicated and driving during the accident. They said she caused her own death, however the autopsy report had no findings of intoxication and Zkira was in the back passenger seat of the crashed vehicle.

The family is still searching for answers and the case is being investigated by the Charles County Sheriff's Office in Nanjemoy, MD.
