LUMBERTON, N.C. -- One of the men convicted of killing Michael Jordan's father has been given approval to be released from prison in 2023.
While taking a nap on the side of Highway 74 South of Lumberton, James Jordan was killed on July 23, 1993.
Larry Demery and Daniel Green saw Jordan napping in his car. They killed him and stole his car.
In their trial, Demery testified that the pair was going to just tie Jordan up. He said that Green decided on his own to pull the trigger, shooting and killing Jordan.
Green admits that he helped dump Jordan's body but maintains he wasn't present when Jordan was shot fatally in the chest.
Demery and Green were both convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison for the crime.
According to an August 18 parole commission letter that was released , Demery was approved to for parole.
The letter states that multiple groups have approved a date of Aug. 6, 2023. That date is contingent on him remaining in good standing as a prisoner.
